Toothpaste works like Soap for your Teeth

Today's toothpastes promise everything from a brighter smile and white teeth to a wondrous life. All kidding aside, toothpaste is simply a cleaning agent for your mouth similar to laundry soap for clothes.

The way they're similar is that both are lubricants. Simple laundry soap is effective in removing dirt because it lubricates the clothing fibers and keeps allows for the water to rinse away the dirt and grime.

The pastes gels and other materials we buy for our dental hygiene to clean our teeth acts very similar. The toothpaste or gels act as a surfactant or lubricant to remove the plaque and dirt from our teeth. When toothpaste and powders first came onto the market, they were actually made from pulverized brick or chalk. These original products acted like miniature scrapers on teeth, causing the tooth enamel to become damaged from the abrasion.

Toady many toothpaste and tooth gels are marketed for specific markets including children. Many products today in the segment are more focused on delivery of the product as in the type of

container and the marketing. There are also a lot of tie ins to popular cartoons and other television shows in an attempt to sell more product.

The pump in very popular as a toothpaste dispensing device. Only problem is that professional have recommended that only a pea sized amount of dentifrice is necessary to clean your teeth, while the pump dispenser delivers a whole pile of toothpaste on your brush. It looks good in marketing programs but the reality is that it only wastes product and requires your to buy more over because of that waste.
