Tooth Bonding is a great way for a Quick fix.

Tooth bonding is a lot like dental veneers in that they both work to fix a defect in a specific tooth. Bonding however is much different in that it's like doing a spot repair while a veneer will cover the whole side of the tooth.

Composite tooth bonding is a cosmetic dentistry technique that is used to repair smaller types of damage like a chip in a tooth. Dental bonding uses various materials that are worked together to match the shade and translucence of your real teeth. The good thing with this is that it's relatively easy to do though it doesn't take a lot of skill and talent from the dentist.

Due to the talent and experience aspect however, it's critical that you seek out a qualified cosmetic dentist. The reason for this is that cosmetic dentistry should be considered a specialty and not something you would want to trust to just any dentist.

Although all dentists are qualified by virtue of their license to practice cosmetic dentistry, the skill level is much greater in someone who has focused or specialized in this type of dental work. The prices of the work will be comparable but you stand a much better chance of being very satisfied with the result from someone with a higher level of expertise.

Bonding however should not be confused with porcelain veneers. The composite tooth bonding materials used are very good but do have limitations. Although they may initially look good, as we age, our teeth tend to become stained and yellowed. The same thing should be expected of the bonding material.

Because the bonding agents can differ in performance is another reason why it's important to choose your cosmetic dentist wisely.

From a personal standpoint, tooth bonding is more of an esthetics type of solution to a long term situation. Even the best dental bonding materials cannot be expected to hold up to the use and abuse we give our teeth. Popcorn, sticky foods, strong drink and food all work to wear down even the strongest tooth enamel and even more so the bonding materials.

So from a long term solution, talk to your dentist about porcelain veneers. This product, unlike simply bonding techniques seems to hold up much better over the long term The cost may be a little more but if you consider the tooth bonding costs and veneer costs on a per year basis, given the veneers should last longer, the cost becomes almost equal.
