How About a Few Teeth Whitening Product Reviews.

There are many products on the market that promise a whiter, brighter smile in as little as a few days. The reality of course is much different than the marketing hype would suggest. It IS possible however to get whiter teeth using almost any of these products. The questions however are how white and how fast. There is no question that the best results come from using quality products in a custom fitted tray system.

FOUR things to ask before choosing any teeth whitening product

1. How does the tooth whitening gel hold to your teeth
2. Does the teeth whitening kit use standard fitted or custom fit trays
3. What strength is the active ingredient used in the gel whiten your teeth
4. How much of the gel is considered "fillers"

Crest Whitestrips
The main feature here is the delivery system of the whitening chemical. Unlike the products above that use a tooth gel tray to hold the chemical against the teeth surfaces, the white strips use a plastic tape. This tape sits on your front teeth and theoretically whitens in as little as a week. This is a quick and easy product to use although it's not nearly as effective as regular teeth whitening systems that use dental trays. Whitestrips will however lighten noticeable stains and provide some measure of whitening power. Although the product does work some, our reviewers didn't like just some of their teeth were being whitened. The effectiveness wasn't as good as hoped either. Overall, this product is rated Barely Passable.

BRIGHT WHITE:
Competitive Carbamide Peroxide. A relatively pure product free from many fillers. They also use a glycerin base.

Wear time is from 1 hour to overnight.

While other products use more fillers to appear that the product is offering more for your money, they typically only offer more mess. Who wants a mouthful of goo for an hour or more. In this case the highest quality gel is preferred because you use less of it. You need to be careful selecting the right product from this company as they offer some very aggressive strengths that could make your teeth and gums sensitive. Overall a great product!

Rembrandt Extra Comfort
Urea Peroxide, a derivative base. Rembrandt also uses fluoride in their product that increases the time necessary to get to your whitening goal. Fluoride has been shown to be extremely effective in lowering the number of dental caries however our focus here is teeth whitening products not preventing cavities. Wear time is from 2-4 hours up to overnight. Although Rembrandt does work, it's a little slower due to the fluoride dampening the whitening power of the peroxide. Overall Rating, It's ok

Nupro Gold
Carbamide peroxide usually at a 10% strength and fluoride as an additive. Although the peroxide is at a competitive strength, the fluoride does tend to slow the bleaching ability of the product. Wear time is 4 hours up to overnight. Pleasant taste.

Perfecta Ultra 6 / Perfecta 3/15
1 Hydrogen Peroxide in a low dose formulation resulting in little to no sensitivity caused by the whitening process. The stronger gel material however is competitive with many products available and can cause sensitivity. Overall, the lower concentration of peroxide is a great whitening solution for anyone with sensitive teeth or gums. Overall, this product is rated just OK for most but GREAT for those with teeth sensitivity

The toothpastes and whitening paints didn't do much for our reviewers. They simply weren't worth the added expense with some giving little to no noticeable difference in whiteness.

So which product is best? It's clear that teeth whitening systems that use a custom tray to hold the get in place does a much more complete, faster and is more effective than the other options. At least as far a teeth whitening products are concerned, quality does matter. Watch for the strength of the active ingredients in the whitening gel and use trays for the best whitening, tooth bleach solution.
