Bleeding Gums

Bleeding Gums - Is it something to Worry About?

Yes, Bleeding gums are something to worry about but like everything else, it depends on the amount. A little blood in the sink after brushing can indicate the presence of gingivitis developing. Although serious, it's not something that you should be overly concerned about but you would want to take action to keep it from getting worse.

A little bleeding may also indicate that you just were brushing to darn hard. Good oral care is not something that should be painful. Instead it should actually make your whole mouth feel clean and fresh. A whiter smile and fresh breath should be the result of an effective teeth cleaning not a sink full of blood. If the blood is caused by having jabbed your tooth brush into your soft tissue gum area, it may have traumatized the area. Rinse with cold water and spit again into the sink.. If it's still bleeding and you're worried a little about it, go get a teaspoon of salt, mix it into cool water and use as a mouthwash. This will help stop the bleeding and clean the affected area.

If however, you didn't hurt yourself with the toothbrush then there's a great possibility that you may have the starting symptoms of gingivitis. This very common gum disease can be quickly corrected with a daily regimen of brushing regularly and flossing between your teeth. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gum tissue caused by bacteria and plaque build up at the base of the teeth. By removing the plaque and bacteria, the gingivitis will no longer be an issue and your gums will heal back to a very healthy state.

Do not allow this condition to worsen however. Later stages of this disease include gum recession. This is where your gums shrink down and away from the teeth leaving them exposed to even more diseases and rot. Gums are an important part of keeping your teeth solidly in place. When they recede, you run the risk of teeth becoming loose and causing serious dental problems.

So be smart and take care of gingivitis before it destroys your dental health. Health teeth make everyone feel their best.
