Bad Breathe - Causes and Cures for a Smelly Situation

Bad Breathe is one of those naturally occurring things that everyone works to avoid. Assuming the Halitosis, which is the fancy word for bad breath, is not caused by any medication condition, the treatment and cure for the condition is quite simple.

Have you ever stepped up to someone for the first time, and watched them cringe with pain as you spoke? How about if you're married, you've surely caught a whiff of your spouse's morning yawn.

The good news is that there are some basic hygiene treatment techniques that can cure bad breath. The remedy doesn't involve buying anything more than what you already have. With a little guidance from your local dentist and maybe a trip to the drug store for a new toothbrush, you can easily cure smelly odors coming from your mouth.

Let's start with the basics. Good oral hygiene is essential in battling bad breath.

How often do you brush? Dentists agree that brushing for at least two minutes is critical. This is something that should be done several times a day.

And don't forget to scrub that tongue. This is one of the absolute best bad breath cures. All that bacteria that rests along side your taste buds must be destroyed with a little toothpaste and a brushing. Personally, I like to use a cold terry cloth washcloth and simply scrub my tongue gently with the wet cloth. I go the extra distance and also wipe down the sides of my mouth including the insides of my cheeks, and between the lips and gum line. It makes my mouth feel so much cleaner.

Another critical part of the treatment in making bad breath a thing of the past is flossing. We all have to resort to the string if we truly want to rid our teeth and gums of plaque and tarter build-up that can lead to gingivitis and bad breath.

Flossing daily is mandatory. Mouthwash, which is a very popular breath cure is also one of the easiest but not extremely effective. Mouthwash with alcohol can kill bacteria while those with sugar actually feed the bacteria. The flavors only work to hide the smell and not destroy the problem of the bacteria.

Mouthwash is effective however is loosening the decaying food particles thereby doing some good as a treatment and remedy for unpleasant breath.

Aside from good oral cleaning, there are a number of other bad breath cures. Check out the candy isle at any convenient store. From refreshing sugarless gums to the mints, they can work to again loosen the offending food matter. Always buy the sugar free variety of these breathe cures. This will help protect your teeth by not feeding the bacteria that is always present in your mouth.

So a daily regiment of cleaning and flossing will correct bad breath and leave you with a great smelling mouth. If these common treatments don't rapidly deliver a sweeter, more aromatic mouth, you should then consult with a dental professional to find out what is causing the problem
